2022 Rivulet Glaziers Bay Chardonnay
2022 Rivulet Glaziers Bay Chardonnay
“Grown on the Elsewhere Vineyard, located between Cygnet and Huonville in the Huon Valley. This vineyard was established in 1982; it’s ancient in Tasmania wine terms. The grapefruit flavours here; the oomph. This is both cutting and intense at once. I’m an instant convert and fan. It’s juicy and lengthy and silken and long, and while it will improve with age it’s also quite joyous right now, in the wild intensity of its youth. Lemonade and grapefruit and sprigs of herbs; that’s it in a nutshell.”

"Chardonnay sourced from the Elsewhere vineyard in the Huon Valley; whole-bunch pressed, oxidative handing, matured in French oak (20% new) for 11 months. Light straw with notes of grapefruit, white peach and citrus fruits with hints of soft spice, nougat, lemonade, white flowers, crushed stone and wisp of fennel and mountain herbs. Silky and textural with a lovely palate flow, all yellow fruited and minerally with fine acid drive and dots of cream on the exit."

A welcome return to working with the exceptional fruit from the very special Elsewhere Vineyard in Tasmania’s far south, located between Cygnet and Huonville in the Huon Valley. Elsewhere is where it all began in the Huon Valley and was its first commercial vineyard, established in 1982. Restored to its former glory and tended with meticulous attention to detail by Owen and Eve Knight.
A cooler vintage, as a result of a continuing La Nina weather pattern. The long growing season has produced moderate alcohol, fine, tight acidity, and excellent fruit concentration within a finer frame.
100% Penfolds clone chardonnay from 22 year old vines, unirrigated and deeply rooted in black cracking clay soils. Handpicked and whole bunch pressed and oxidatively handled with no additions. Racked to barriques and hogsheads for fermentation and eleven months maturation on lees. 20% new French oak, with partial wild malolactic fermentation, no barrel stirring and unfined.
Total production 1380 bottles.
Drink: 2024 to 2030
